Bionic Blooms Gardening Glove

Bionic gloves are the only gardening glove designed by an orthopedic hand surgeon. The anatomical relief pad on the leather palm is designed to reduce hand fatigue, blisters and calluses. The strategically placed padding increases grip strength and enhances the performance of the hand.

The wrist is supported by a form-fitting neoprene wrist closure which helps prevent debris from entering the glove, an aspect of the glove that Louise S., a landscaper in Orefield, PA, liked. (She would have liked it even better if the wrist support were over her wrist as opposed to slightly over the base of her hand.)

The pre-rotated finger design promotes natural closure of the hand. The Blooms are lightweight and made with a breathable spandex material. The reinforced silicone on the finger tips and palm improves grip and durability. One of our testers said she thought the added silicone improved tactile sensation (Amy R., Macungie, PA).

All of our testers found the gloves to be comfortable and to perform well, though they agreed they are not a wet-weather glove. All also said they’d recommend Bionic Blooms to other women.

The gloves are safe for hand and machine washing with a mild detergent, cold water, gentle cycle, no bleach, and be sure to air dry only.

Bionic Sizing Chart

Bionic Blooms run smaller than some other gloves. One tester, for example, usually wears a medium or large but needed an extra large in these.

The manufacturer’s directions for determining size are to measure (in inches) around your dominant hand with a tape measure at the place indicated on the photo below, and then use the tape measurement to determine your proper glove size based on the chart. If you’re close to the “border” between two sizes, we recommend sizing up!

Circumference Glove Size
6 ¼ -7" Small
7¼ - 7¾" Medium
7¾ - 8" Large
8 – 8¼" X-Large

Bionic Technology

Designed by a leading orthopedic hand surgeon, Bionic technology is totally unique in the marketplace. There is nothing like it. The difference is found in the design based on the anatomy of the hand and the science of ergonomics. Here are a few notable examples:

Anatomical Relief Pad System

The anatomy:

The hand has natural peaks and valleys determined by the bones in the hand. The high points of the bone rub against tools and equipment and cause blisters, calluses and hand fatigue.

The ergonomic solution:

Strategically-placed pads on the glove eliminate the peaks and valleys and even the surface of the hand.

The advantage:

Bionic improves grip strength, without the need to grip harder, and reduces hand fatigue. Plus, friction causing blisters and calluses is virtually eliminated.

Pre-Rotated Finger Design

The anatomy:

Your fingers are “pre-rotated,” which means the forefinger and pinky rotate inward toward the center of your hand when grasping an object.

The ergonomic solution:

Unlike conventional gloves, which are designed with a straight cut in the fingers, Bionic gloves feature a pre-rotated design that follows the natural motion of your fingers.

The advantage:

Bionic is more comfortable, feeling like a “second skin,” and moves more naturally when gripping.

Bionic Blooms Gardening Glove Reviews

“Work well for moderate temperatures and dry conditions; not for wet weather. . . They’re best for physical work where you need to protect your hands without compromising too much dexterity – hoeing, pounding in posts, putting up greenhouse, carrying wood. Can use for weeding, too, as they have good tactile sensation. THANK YOU! I use these a lot!” -- Kristin I.

“They performed well in day to day tasks like carrying buckets, bales of hay, splitting firewood, gardening tasks, using tools etc. Also liked the color – (for) folks that like something bright that is easily spotted when you put them down somewhere (that’s me!)” – Nitya A.

“I liked the padding in palm and the finger tip sensation is pretty good for gloves. They have been very helpful in protecting the cut I have on my hand. The tightness of fit feels like a massage on my fingers and is nice. . . Overall I really like these gloves a lot!!!!” – Louise S.

Louise emailed us later to say that the finger seams had given out after she had been using them “a LOT, and working with cinderblocks, so I guess there’s a limit to what we can ask of them.” She added that she wanted a new pair for the spring.
