GT "KURO" Hori-Hori Stainless Steel Soil Knife

It’s hard to improve on near-perfection, but our friends at GrowTech have taken a stab at it by adding a rubberized comfort grip handle to the wildly popular and versatile hori-hori soil knife. This version is slightly heavier (+ 2.4 oz.) and ¾" longer than the original. Like its predecessor, it features a serrated edge for sawing through roots and dividing perennials, as well as depth markers for planting (this time in inches instead of mm), a pointed tip, a sharp non-serrated edge, and a beveled blade for shoveling. Synthetic sheath included, or you can substitute a quality leather sheath ideal for hanging on your belt.

Weight: 10.8 oz.
Overall length: 12 3/4"

Leather Sheath

In response to requests, we’ve decided to offer GT’s high quality hori-hori with a leather sheath option, ideal for anyone who likes to hang tools on her / his belt.

GT "KURO" Hori-Hori Stainless Steel Soil Knife Reviews

"I love the kuro - it's an absolutely wonderful tool. It does so many different things, I don't have to go get another tool. I can use it to prune off, divide plants, dig a hole for a bulb or plant. And because of its size and shape, it gives you some mechanical advantage. It's so much better than a trowel." -- Mimi Dunham, Burke, VA, via telephone. April 14, 2016

"We call it the garden ninja. It makes everything so much easier. Literally we use it for everything – planting, weeding, cracks in the flagstone patio." -- Mary Seaton, Rebersburg, PA, in person at the Penn State Master Gardeners Garden Faire & Plant Sale, May 16, 2015, while purchasing 3 kuros to give as gifts

"I love my Kuro hori-hori. It's now my favorite tool!" -- Susanne Fiori, Fleetwood, PA

"It's practically the only tool I use -- I love it! It digs, cuts roots, even kills slugs" -- Anne Courtemanche, Hagerstown, MD

"I used the Kuro yesterday and now it may be my favorite hand tool. I even used the serrated edge to 'rake' fine soil smooth." -- Barbara Schubert, Silver Spring, MD, via email, June 5, 2013

"Just wanted to let you know how much I love the hori knife I bought last week. It is the most amazing tool ever!! Been trying to dig out turf lilies for a few years with no success. The knife is making easy work of a very difficult task and I am making progress conquering this hated weed that is taking over my garden! The knife is of excellent quality and digs easily through this tough plant." -- Becky Ott, Media, PA, via email May 22, 2013

"Just used the new Hori-Hori knife to plant a few rows of saffron bulbs. So easy to plant with the measurements on the blade! 4" deep, 4" apart - a breeze." --Tina Sams, Editor in Chief, The Essential Herbal, Lancaster, PA. posted on Facebook April 22, 2013

About ARS

Since 1876, the Japanese company ARS has been producing high-quality professional pruning tools. ARS’ state-of-the-art technology utilizes high carbon tool steel to produce exceptionally sharp blades that hold their edge, cut after cut. ARS invented the tri-edge, pull saw blade that is now the industry standard. Though the name ARS actually comes from the Greek word for "art," it’s no coincidence that it’s also an acronym for "Always Really Sharp." ARS is distributed in the U.S. by GrowTech, Inc., a family-owned company we are proud to call one of our partners.
